On Your Door Step

In addition to fishing our coarse and trout lakes there are a wealth of activities that can be enjoyed right from the doorstep at Glas y Dorlan.

Walking – whatever your fitness level there are some fantastic walks leading right from the doorstep – from a short 20 minute stroll to more challenging day hikes. Glas y Dorlan is an ideal base for a walking holiday.  One easy footpath leads down onto Criccieth beach and on to the town itself, this also joins up with the lovely Lleyn Peninsula coastal path.   Within half an hours drive you will find some of the most beautiful walks anywhere in Wales, including Snowdon itself. The cottage has a good choice of local walking books to borrow, as well as a selection of 1:25,000 Explorer OS maps for the area.

Cycling – we're pleased to welcome cyclists at Glas y Dorlan. The utility/drying room provides ample secure storage space for up to four bikes, as well as drying racks for any wet gear. An outside tap is available for bike cleaning.   Antur Stiniog DH & Freeride Centre and the famous Mountain Biking Centre at Coed y Brenin are both only half an hour's drive away.

Birdwatching – as well as numerous noted birdwatching areas close by we have a huge variety of birds right here on the farm, thanks to the different habitats provided by woods, farmland, marshland and of course the five lakes. Each year in May the Fishery organises a very popular 'bird walk' led by an experienced bird watcher.

Golf – Just over the hill from the farm lies Criccieth Golf Course “with none to equal it in scenery” according to Prime Minister David Lloyd George who was a founder member.  These days the Course has a number of Pay & Play Packages and welcomes golfers of all abilities. It's advisable to get in touch beforehand to ensure your preferred tee time.  The Course also offers club and buggy hire.  Also within easy reach are Porthmadog Golf Course and the famous Royal St Davids links course at Harlech.
